Planning blog: Script

Title: Burnt Out

Scene 1: Morning Routine

(Soft morning light filters into the room. The alarm blares.)

(Amiya groggily reaches out, fumbling to turn off her alarm. She misses a few times before finally hitting the button. She groans, rubbing her eyes, then slowly sits up in bed, exhausted.)

Scene 2: Overworking at the Table

(Amiya sits at the dining table, her untouched breakfast pushed aside. Her focus is entirely on the open notebook in front of her, scribbling notes. A clock on the wall is shown—time passes. “Three hours later” appears on the screen.)

(Cut back to Amiya at the table. She rubs her tired eyes, her posture slumped. Her pencil slows as exhaustion sets in, but she keeps pushing through.)

Scene 3: The Never-Ending Work

(Amiya is now on the couch, still working. Her eyes droop.)

AMIYA: (muttering) I need to take a break… I’m so tired.

(She hesitates, looking at her notebook. Instead of resting, she sighs and picks it up again, continuing to write.)

Scene 3: Phone Call with Nevaeh

(The screen stays dark. A phone rings. The call connects.)

NEVAEH: (exhausted) Ugh. Please tell me I’m not the only one drowning in assignments right now.

AMIYA: (sighs) Oh no, you’re not. I just finished a six-page essay, and I still have a math test to study for. My brain is mush.

NEVAEH: Same. I swear, every teacher thinks their class is the only one that matters. I don’t even know how I’m still functioning.

AMIYA: You’re not. Neither am I. We’re like—walking zombies at this point.

NEVAEH: (laughs tiredly) No, for real. My mom asked me a simple question earlier, and I just stared at her like… buffering.

AMIYA: (chuckles) You glitched.

NEVAEH: I fully glitched. I swear, school is sucking the life out of me. I used to actually care, but now? I’m just… tired.

AMIYA: Exactly. It’s like, no matter how hard we work, there’s always more. And the second you take a break, you feel guilty.

NEVAEH: Right! Like, I took a twenty-minute nap, and I woke up panicked, thinking I missed a deadline. That’s not normal.

AMIYA: (softly) It’s not. But what else are we supposed to do?

(Silence lingers. The weight of burnout sits between them.)

NEVAEH: (quietly) I don’t know.

AMIYA: Me neither.

(The call stays open, but neither speaks. Just breathing. Just existing. The screen fades to black.)

Scene 6: Choosing Rest

(The alarm blares again. Amiya reaches for it but, instead of rushing up, she presses snooze. She stretches in bed, then sinks back into her pillow.)

AMIYA: (sleepily) I’m going back to sleep.

Scene 7: Self-Care

(Amiya stands in the bathroom, brushing her hair in front of the mirror. She smiles at her reflection—just a small one, but real.)

Scene 8: Finally Done

(Amiya sits on the couch. Her laptop is open in front of her. She stares at it for a moment before slowly closing it. A deep breath.)

(She picks up the TV remote, pressing the power button. The screen cuts to black.)

THE END.
